We all love going abroad; soaking up the sun, swimming in clear waters, walking along a sandy beach with a cocktail in your hand, but holidays can be expensive if you don’t know how to find the cheap deals. That’s why we’re here; here are our top tips on how to find the cheapest holidays.
Scout around; learn what is a deal and what is not.
FINDING THE DEALS
I’m sure many of our readers have been on a package holiday. Booking a holiday can be a stressful experience, one study found that we actually spend more time planning our holiday than we do actually on holiday, and that’s where package holidays come in. Package holidays take care of all of the planning for you, all you have to worry about is turning up at the airport and getting on the flight. But with the ease of package holidays, it can be too easy to simply pick one you like the sound of without doing any extra research into the location to find out if you can get it cheaper elsewhere or by doing it yourself. So our advice is, if you find a package holiday you like the look of, scout around, try and find cheaper alternatives for that location, see if booking your flight and accommodation separately is cheaper overall, even if it takes up a little more time. We recommend using flyscanner (www.flyscanner.net)
DON’T BE TOO FUSSY
Something to be aware of with super cheap holidays is that they might not always be in a location you had in mind. At certain points in the year flights to certain places can be very cheap, and out of season hotels can also be very cheap, this leads to an abundance of holiday locations that you might not normally consider, but result in a great holiday.
Websites like HolidayPirates (www.holidaypirates.com) find the cheap holidays so you don’t have to. Many of these holidays are in places you might not normally consider, and some are based on jetting off last minute, so you may have to arrange a week or two free time in advance, and then book to go within a couple of days of that.
BOOK HOLIDAYS WAY IN ADVANCE
If you book a holiday for more than a year or so away, the price goes down considerably. This may seem a little less exciting since you’ll be waiting a long time for you holiday, but if you plan it right, this can mean you have your holidays planned for the next couple of years and already paid for, taking a huge burden off all of the other expenses of going abroad (travel insurance, sun cream, new clothes, swimwear, sunglasses, etc).
GETTING A COACH IS MUCH CHEAPER
Megabus offer extremely cheap coaches to locations all over Europe for the fraction of the price of flying. Flying is obviously a much quicker way to get to your location, but coaches can save you a lot of money if you’re looking to find the cheapest holiday options.
